Mount Airy man transported to Shock Trauma via helicopter after 'serious' collision

Mount Airy Drive near Ridge Road reopened at about 11 a.m. Tuesday after a “serious” single-vehicle crash left a driver trapped, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 52-year-old Mt. Airy man was trapped in his vehicle, a 2003 Ford truck that had left the roadway and hit a tree. The man was removed from his vehicle and taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in a Maryland State Police helicopter.

Deputies were dispatched at about 7:13 a.m. Cpl. Jonathan Light, a spokesman for the office, said the scene was still “very active and current” just before 9 a.m. and officials were investigating.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit at 410-386-5900.
