Firefighters from Carroll, Howard, Frederick respond to abandoned house fire in Marston

Firefighters from Carroll, Frederick and Howard counties responded to a fire at an abandoned house in the 3200 block of Sams Creek Road in Marston on Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched shortly before 1:30 p.m. According to New Windsor fire company Chief Byron Welker, arriving units found a two-story house well involved in fire and assumed a defensive operation to contain the fire.

No one was hurt or displaced as a result of the fire and there were no injuries to firefighting personnel, according to a news release from the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services.

When they arrived on scene, firefighters quickly requested the Tanker Task Force and units from New Midway, Walkersville, Libertytown, Howard and Carroll County responded, according to the release.

It took about 75 firefighters around 45 minutes to put out the bulk of the fire. Crews were remaining on the scene to extinguish hotspots and perform overhaul, according to the release.

The Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
