Holiday Hope: Another $46,000 needed to reach Christmas goal

As we begin the stretch run to Christmas, the 2017 Holiday Hope campaign stands at $63,873 raised for our five partner charities after the latest round of contributions totaling nearly $4,000.

We humbly ask our readers to help us reach our goal of $110,000 by Dec. 25 by making a donation, no matter how much, to help these terrific local charities assist Carroll residents in need. Holiday Hope is an annual campaign in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Access Carroll, Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice and The Shepherd's Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays.


The most recent donations included $500 from Terry Brothers’ Family in memory of Maureen, Oscar and Virginia Brothers; $500 from Carl and Katie Snook in memory of Owen Coble; $400 from Sandy Crouse in memory of George Crouse; $200 from Kenneth and Janet McComas; $100 from Craig and Kath Krauss in memory of Gene and Marion Krauss; $100 from Peggy Conrad and Family in memory of Grover Z. Conrad; $100 from Sandy Crouse in memory of George Crouse; $100 from the Gillen Family in memory of Terri Marie Harrison; $100 in memory of Winnie and Rudy Serra; and $100 from Thomas F. Dell.

Also received was $50 from Burke in memory of Missing Mary; $50 from Darlene and John Hale in memory of Brent Donovan; $50 from Jackie McLain in honor of The Slipper Group; $25 from Austin and Emma Layne in memory of their Grandmother Gloria Johnson; $25 in memory of Elizabeth Kirschner; and 14 anonymous donations totaling $1,565.

The Shepherd's Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Access Carroll offers integrated healthcare services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.
