Carroll County is slated to open its first medical cannabis dispensary in July.
The grand opening of Westminster’s Herbology is scheduled for July 15, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration beginning at 11 a.m.
“Obviously we’re very excited to finally be opening, it’s been a long road,” owner Diane Davison said.
At a Thursday hearing, the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission voted to give final approval for Herbology’s dispensary license, clearing the way for the business to open at 700 K Corporate Center Court.
While the county has had its own growing facility in Taneytown — Grassroots Cannabis — for about two years, this is set to be Carroll’s first dispensary, which sells cannabis to certified patients with recommendations for the substance from a medical provider.
In 2013, the Maryland General Assembly initially approved medical cannabis in the state, but after delays in implementation, growers and dispensaries didn’t receive their first pre-licenses until three years later.
