Yard waste pickup service in the Town of Hampstead begins again on Monday, April 1, and will be offered to all residents within the incorporated town limits.
The yard waste is picked up each Monday, from the first Monday in April to the third Monday in December.
Per Town Code, "yard waste consists of grass clippings, hedge clippings, tree branches smaller than four (4) feet in length and less than two (2) inches in diameter, leaves and other waste as may be generated from a residential gardening operation.”
And a town news release states, “branches must be bundled and tied up in arm-full loads.”
The release also states that lawn clippings, leaves and other yard waste must be placed in Kraft Paper Bags or a clear trash can — and if the trash can is not completely transparent with a drainage hole at the bottom, the waste will not be collected.
“Clear trash cans may be purchased online through various vendors,” the release says.
Yard waste should be placed curbside on the Sunday evening before pickup, and the town requests that residents collect their grass clippings or leave them on the lawn as natural mulching, rather than raking or blowing them into the streets and storm drains.
