During shifts throughout the holiday season, Hampstead Police officers will increase their visible presence to deter opportunistic holiday theft.
“While it is a happy time to be with family, friends, to celebrate and give thanks, there is unfortunately the opportunist of society out there waiting to prey upon the unsuspecting shopper and business,” Chief Steve Gossage told members of the department.
When not otherwise responding to service calls, officers on patrol will be visible among the Main Street corridor, back alleys, and shopping complexes, focusing on Christmas tree sales, and certain stores and restaurants.
“We don't have the resources to dedicate an officer specifically to a Holiday Patrol assignment, but the officers will concentrate their efforts to the Holiday Patrol initiative when not engaged with other calls for service,” Gossage said.
In Westminster, the Westminster Police, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police partner to provide dedicated patrols of commercial areas during the holiday season.
