Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal worked through the night following a fire in Westminster that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.
A call went out at 12:26 a.m. for a dwelling fire in the 2200 block of Dulaney Terrace. No one was injured in the incident, according to a notice of investigation from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Deputy state fire marshals credit the smoke alarms in the home with saving the lives of the occupants by alerting them to fire during the night.
Fire Marshal’s investigators believe the fire to have originated in the home’s garage. The preliminary cause is still under investigation.
About 25 firefighters from Winfield, Westminster, Sykesville, Mount Airy, New Windsor and Lisbon were able to control the blaze in approximately 20 minutes.
The loss to the structure is estimated at $200,000 and contents at $50,000, according to the notice.
The family is being assisted by family, neighbors and Red Cross.
