State Fire Marshal investigates firework incidents at Westminster house

The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating two June 26 firework explosions on a Westminster house’s porch.

At 1:16 a.m., the Westminster police department responded to calls of destruction of property, said senior deputy state fire marshal Oliver Alkire. The homeowner discovered what turned out to be remains of an aerial type of firework on the doorstep.

About four hours later, another firework was set off.

The office of state fire marshal do not know for sure whether the home was the intended target, Alkire said, but it is considering it a possibility.

“We do not consider this juvenile fire play, because fireworks are dangerous,” he said. “And if that would have caught the right combustibles on fire, it could have rapidly spread to the remainder of the house.”

The fireworks left two scorch marks on the front porch, causing an estimated loss of $500. No one was injured.

The office asks that anyone with information to contact them at 410-386-3050.
