Finch Services consolidating to focus on golf and sports turf; Atlantic Tractor to take over retail location in Westminster

Finch Services, which has been selling and servicing farm and lawn equipment in Westminster since 1952, is getting out of the retail business to focus on the golf course and sports turf side of the company.

Finch Services announced in a Wednesday news release that it will be consolidating to a dedicated John Deere Golf & Sports Turf organization, with Atlantic Tractor acquiring the Finch Services John Deere agricultural and homeowner locations in Westminster, Hunt Valley, and Hanover, Pennsylvania, effective June 1.

“This transition and acquisition will strengthen both Atlantic Tractor and Finch Services, allowing us to secure a sustainable future for our customers, employees and stakeholders,” Ray Finch, president of Finch Services, said in the release.

Finch Services’ Eldersburg location will be retained for its golf and sports turf contract with John Deere. Atlantic Tractor will be assuming Finch Services’ three other retail locations with its John Deere compact construction equipment, agriculture and turf/homeowner contracts.

Finch Services was established as a John Deere dealership in Medford in 1945 and has remained family-owned. The dealership relocated to Westminster in 1952, expanding to four locations over the years. Most retail customers likely know Finch Services for their lawn mowers and tractors without knowing a lot about the business-to-business side, company spokesperson Shannan Finch Hidey said via email.

“Over the last 76 years, our business has grown and adapted to meet the ever-changing needs of the markets and customers we serve. Many years ago, our golf and sport turf business became the largest part of our business, as we now cover a geography from northern Virginia to the Canadian border,” Finch said via the release. “We are deeply appreciative of our agricultural roots in Carroll, Baltimore, York and Adams counties, and are excited for those customers to have the support of a larger organization who is focused on their specific needs.”

According to its website, Atlantic Tractor serves Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania with “quality new and used tractors, combines, sprayers, riding mowers, hay balers, planting and tillage equipment.”

“Combining the employee bases and facilities of these two great legacy companies will make us stronger together and will allow us to provide a seamless transition for our customers as we continue to provide them with excellent products and the exceptional customer service that they have been accustomed to by both Atlantic Tractor and Finch Services,” Mel Goldsmith, CEO of Atlantic Tractor, said via the release.
