According to a news release from the state police’s Frederick Barrack, troopers responded to the area of Interstate 70 westbound, west of Bartholows Road, just before 8 p.m.

An investigation found that Davis lost control of his 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle, sliding across the road surface and into a guardrail, police said. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash, but investigators believe Curtis was “involved in a speed contest traveling westbound on Interstate 70 with at least two other vehicles,” according to the release.

Police identified the drivers of additional vehicles near the collision scene and they were transported to the MSP Frederick Barrack to be interviewed by Crash Team investigators. The Frederick County Office of the State’s Attorney is aware of the investigation and responded to the scene. That office will review the investigation when it has been completed, according to the release.

The Maryland State Highway Administration, the Career Firefighters Association of Frederick County, the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services, the Mount Airy Police Department, the New Market District Volunteer Fire Company and the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company provided assistance at the scene, according to the release.
