The Maryland Farm Bureau is offering five $2,000 scholarships to college students in 2019.
High school seniors starting college in the fall of 2019 and full-time college students are eligible as long as they are or a parent is a member of the Farm Bureau.
Three of the scholarships will be offered to agricultural curriculum majors and two scholarships will be offered to nonagricultural or agricultural curriculum majors, according to a news release.
The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Feb.1, 2019. The application can be found at www.mdfarmbureau.com/scholarships.
Students should respond with the completed application form, a current photo and an essay responding to this year’s topic:
“Technology is one of the driving forces for innovation and advancement in agriculture. How can the industry attract the best and brightest minds from STEM (science, technology, engineering and medicine) into agricultural careers?”
Essay should be limited to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double-spaced with normal margins.
No identifying information should be used, and a committee from the Farm Bureau committee will evaluate applications anonymously. For example, no college names, no 4-H club names, no town or county names, should be included in the essay.
The committee reserves the right to interview scholarship applicants if they feel it necessary for determination of winners.
Completed applications and photos should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Recipients will be awarded scholarships at high school graduation programs or prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
