The Republican primary in June will likely determine the next Carroll County commissioner to represent District 5.
Four Republicans — Kathy Fuller, David Greenwalt, Frank Robert and Ed Rothstein — have filed for the seat, held by Commissioner Doug Howard since Carroll moved to a five-member Board of County Commissioners elected by district in 2010. No Democrats have filed, meaning the primary winner is likely to be uncontested in the general election come November.
All four individuals have been invited to participate in a candidate forum, sponsored by the Carroll County Times and the Community Media Center, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the South Carroll Senior and Community Center in Eldersburg.
Each candidate will have the opportunity to give opening and closing statements, and answer questions prepared by the Times, the CMC and submitted questions from voters. If you have a question you would like to be considered, email it to carrollelections2018@gmail.com.
District 5 encompasses the greater Eldersburg and Sykesville area.
Voters whose polling place is listed as Liberty High, Sykesville or Oklahoma Road middle, Carrolltowne, Linton Springs or Piney Ridge elementary schools; or Fairhaven Johnzie's Lounge reside in District 5.
The primary election is Tuesday, June 26. Early voting begins Thursday, June 14, and runs through Thursday, June 21. This year, there are two early voting centers — the Westminster Senior and Community Center and the South Carroll Swim Club.
