A man driving a truck was killed in a collision on Md. 27 north of Interstate 70 in Mount Airy on Wednesday, according to Maryland State Police.
Police identified the driver as Jamie Lee Nottingham, 32, of Monrovia, in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
At about 11:27 a.m., troopers responded to the scene of a single-vehicle collision, according to a Maryland State Police news release. The investigation found that a white, 2015 GMC truck traveled about 30 to 40 feet off the road and down a dirt embankment, according to MSP.
Nottingham was declared dead at the scene. He was the vehicle’s only occupant.
Because the truck had “catastrophic damage,” police were not immediately able to access the vehicle for driver identification, according to the initial release. After he was identified, next of kin was notified.
One lane and a shoulder of Md. 27 were closed for about three hours, with Maryland State Highway Administration assisting. All lanes were reopened at 2:43 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that could assist with the investigation is asked to call the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack at 410-386-3000.
