A bicyclist was flown to the hospital after he collided with a truck in Marriottsville on Tuesday morning, police say.
Marriottsville resident Jeffrey Wicklein, 42, was biking south on Marriottsville Road No. 2, tried to turn right onto Forest Hill Road but turned wide, and entered the eastbound travel lane, according to a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office news release. An “older model” Ford truck driven by Marriottsville resident Woerner Preston, 72, hit Wicklein and the bicycle, according to the release. Police were called to the scene about 7:37 a.m., the release states.
“The Ford appears to have been slowing as it approached the intersection of Forest Hill and Marriottsville Road" No. 2, according to the release.
Wicklein was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, while Preston was taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, the release states. The Sheriff’s Office did not describe the severity of their injuries.
Marriottsville Road No. 2 was closed for about two hours between Ridge and Arrington roads, according to tweets from the Sheriff’s Office.
