Four inmates were injured Tuesday when a Maryland Division of Correction transport van and a dump truck collided near the Carroll-Frederick county line, Maryland State Police said.

State police troopers from the Frederick Barrack responded to crash at about 10:15 a.m. near the intersection of Md. 26 and Buffalo Road, in between New Windsor and Mount Airy, police said. The transport van attempted to make a U-turn but was hit by the dump truck, police found in their preliminary investigation.

Four inmates were in the transport van, police said. Three of them were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment and the fourth was taken to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, though state police did not specify the nature of their injuries.

Police said neither driver was injured in the crash, which briefly delayed traffic in the area.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
