A two-vehicle collision just before 8:30 a.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Md. 140 left one dead and one with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Investigators believe Thomas Blanton Sr., 75, of Westminster, was driving a Ford Escort station wagon and Thomas Blanton Jr., 35, of Woodbine, was seated in the front passenger seat when the vehicle attempted to cross the westbound lanes of Md. 140 toward the entrance of the Motor Vehicle Administration building at 1106 Baltimore Blvd.
The vehicle did not yield right of way and was struck in the passenger-side door by a vehicle traveling westbound in the first lane by a GMC Envoy, according to a release from the Maryland State Police.
Personnel of the MSP Westminster Barrack heard the collision and responded, where they began to provide medical intervention. Blanton Sr. was transported to Carroll Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Blanton Jr. was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. His condition was unknown as of 1 p.m. Friday, but injuries observed at the scene would be considered life-threatening, according to the release.
The collision remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Anyone who may have witnessed or have more information about the incident are asked to contact First Sgt. Menchey at 410-386-3000.
