Due to the snow and potential sleet forecast Wednesday in Carroll County, the Carroll County Cold Weather Shelter will remain open until Thursday morning, the Carroll County Citizen Services announced Tuesday evening.
After opening normally at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, the shelter, located at 127 Stoner Avenue, in Westminster and operated by Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc., will remain open until 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
The shelter is not usually a 24-hour operation, keeping normal hours of 7 p.m. until 8 a.m. during the months that it is open, Nov, 15 through March 31.
Winter weather has forced the shelter open during non-regular hours before this winter. In mid-January, a snowstorm led to the shelter opening early, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12 and staying open until 8 a.m. Monday Jan 13.
