Maryland State Police responded to a call Wednesday evening for a sinkhole in the parking lot of the Aldi supermarket in Eldersburg.

Sgt. Steven Parison said MSP got a call at 6:39 p.m. Wednesday. Upon responding to the Aldi at 1320 Liberty Road, police found a sinkhole approximately 8 inches in diameter and 3 to 5 feet deep in the parking lot.

Parison said police made contact with management of the store, who made contact with the property manager. The property manager was expected to come out Wednesday evening to deal with the situation, Parison said.

Until the situation is remedied, he said, police cordoned off the area and the store covered the hole with plywood, “so no one would fall in it.”
