The Carroll County Arts Council is looking for innovative artists, engineers, designers and anyone with a “sweet” sense of humor to enter the 11th annual PEEPshow. The show will be held at the Carroll Arts Center from March 29 through April 10. Registration closes March 9 or earlier if the maximum number of 170 entries is reached.
According to a Carroll Arts Center press release, the PEEPshow is a wonderfully wacky display of art inspired by the lovable, unnaturally colored marshmallow critters and shapes that invade store shelves before almost every holiday. The arts council will accept dioramas, sculpture and mosaics as long as they include Peeps as the medium or subject matter. They will also accept entries utilizing photography, stop-action filmmaking, computer-generated art, drawings or paintings that feature Peeps as the primary subject matter.
“It is so gratifying that the public has embraced my crazy obsession with Peeps so enthusiastically. I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined that my failed entry in The Washington Post’s first annual Peep Diorama contest in 2007 would have inspired such an amazing event,” said Executive Director Sandy Oxx in a prepared statement.
“I am so grateful to our decorators who manage to create masterpieces from marshmallows, our generous visitors who bid like crazy on these creations, and to Just Born Inc. for being such an avid supporter. We are so proud to be an ambassador for their brand, but perhaps even more important, we are thrilled that this event inspires families to work together as a team to create something that’s sugary sweet and special!”
Five trophy and prize packages will be awarded to those receiving the most in-person votes, as well as five prize packages to those earning the most online votes. The overall grand prize winner will be chosen based on the number of combined in-person and online votes received. The grand prize winner will receive an extra special prize package from Just Born and the Carroll County Arts Council. There will be an additional award for the favorite video as they will not be eligible to compete for online votes, according to the release.
Decorators must pre-register and applications are due March 9. However, if 170 entries are received earlier, the arts council reserves the right to stop accepting applications at any time. There is a $10 entry fee and only one entry per household, business, club or school will be accepted.
Participants may register online at www.carrollcountyartscouncil.org. Completed Peep creations must be delivered the week before the show. Guidelines and application form can also be picked up at the Carroll Arts Center during regular business hours. For more information, call 410-848-7272.
