Registered nurse Connie Allen was presented with the hospital's December Patient Safety Hero Award. A staff member for 22 years, Allen was recognized for working diligently to address a potential safety concern at the hospital.
Created by the Josie King Foundation, the Patient Safety Hero Award is presented to caregivers who work hard to create a culture of patient safety within their health care organization. This can be achieved through various ways including listening to patients or their family members; encouraging them to speak up and ask questions at any time; improving communication and teamwork; and addressing potential safety concerns. At Carroll Hospital, the award is given to an associate whose actions most closely meet the award's criteria, and from a year's worth of honorees, one Patient Safety Hero of the Year will be announced at an annual banquet.
