The Carroll County Public School system is routintely one of the top-performing school systems in the state of Maryland.
Carroll County students consistently score above state and national averages on standardized student assessments. Carroll County also has one of the highest graduation rates and one of the lowest dropout rates in the state.
The public school system currently includes 22 elementary schools, eight middle schools, seven high schools as well as a career and technology center and an alternative school, The Gateway School.
Carroll is also home to several private schools as well as two places of higher learning, Carroll Community College and McDaniel College, both in Westminster.
Carroll County's Board of Education consists of five members elected at-large in the county. The school board generally meets the second Wednesday of every month in the Charles I. Ecker Boardroom at 125 N. Court St.
