Modern American History Lecture Series: 1960-1968: 2 p.m. For ages 10-adults. Join our guest lecturer, Gary Kavanagh for a four-week lecture series covering the period from the 1960 Kennedy/Nixon election contest through the end of the Clinton administration. This series will focus on the historical issues and events of 40-year period that has shaped the political environment of today. Gary Kavanagh is a retired federal employee. He holds a master's degree in modern history and diplomacy from George Washington University and has previously taught social studies in Prince George's County. A Celebrating America program. Twos and Threes Together: Colors: 10 a.m. For ages 2-3, with accompanying caregiver. This lively, fast-paced storytime for young children includes books, songs, fingerplays, and movement.
Read and Play: 11 a.m. For ages birth-24 months, with accompanying caregiver. Join your little one at a storytime featuring interactive books, rhymes, music, and movement, followed by playgroup activities which allow children to practice skills and socialize.
Medicare 102: 5 p.m. For adults. Are you or someone you care about eligible for Medicare? Come and find out how to get the most out of your Medicare health benefits. Medicare 102 covers the four parts of Medicare with a special focus on the Medigap plans. Learn about the different medigap plans and your period of Guaranteed Issue Rights. These secondary/supplemental plans can cover the deductibles and co-insurances not covered by Medicare. We will cover the Medicare Savings Programs (not all programs are low-income programs!) and healthcare fraud. Presented by Carroll County's SHIP/SMP program.

CCPL Presents: Rachel Muller
1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, Westminster branch. For ages 15-adults. Join local author Rachel Muller as she shares the inspiration and the local influences behind her WWII historical fiction series, Love & War. Historical artifacts of the period will be on display. Books will be available for purchase and signing and a brief Q&A will follow the presentation. Muller is excited to announce the release of the third and final title in the Love & War series, Phillip's War. When Marine Sergeant Phillip Johnson returns from the Pacific in the winter of 1946, no one could be happier than the gal that's stuck with him through the duration -- his Libby. But after the homecoming festivities have calmed, Libby senses something is wrong. Will Libby and Phillip find the healing needed to restore their marriage? Or will their love sink in the midst of Phillip's inward war? A Celebrating America program.
Stockings for Soldiers
1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, Mount Airy branch. For all ages. Treats for Troops is a local group that sends monthly care packages to our troops overseas. Come help us make cards and sew stockings to send for the holiday season. Help us reach our goal of 100 cards and 50 stockings. All supplies provided.
Engineering Saturday with KEVA Planks
1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, North Carroll branch. For ages 5-adults. Have fun while playing a stacking game, completing a bridge challenge, or creating a two-dimensional design. You can think like an architect and build a tower as tall as yourself. Children who play with blocks tend to do better in mathematics and science. Physically handling the blocks builds a fundamental understanding of quantities, equality, and geometry.
