Carroll County Public Library schedules (June 8-14)

A naturalist from Piney Run Nature Center will be at the Eldersburg branch of the Carroll County Public Library demonstrating how to turn gourds into decorated bird homes on Monday at 7 p.m.

Twos and Threes Together: Zoo: 11 a.m. For ages 2-3. This lively, fast-paced storytime for young children includes books, songs, fingerplays, and movement.

Once Upon an Alphabet: Letter V: 1 p.m. For ages 2-5. Join us for an ABC adventure filled with stories, songs, crafts, and activities. We will talk, sing, read, write, and play as we explore the letters of the alphabet. Refreshments will be served. Only kids need to register.

Gentle Yoga: 7 p.m. For ages 13-adults. This gentle yoga class is designed to allow students of varying abilities and physical conditions to comfortably develop his or her own yoga practice. There are many appealing aspects of yoga, including increased flexibility and strength, improved balance, as well as stress and pain relief. No experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat and blanket. All attendees need to register.

Once Upon an Alphabet: Letter V: 10 a.m. For ages 2-5. Join us for an ABC adventure filled with stories, songs, crafts, and activities. We will talk, sing, read, write, and play as we explore the letters of the alphabet. Refreshments will be served. Only kids need to register.

Sensory Sensitive Storytime: 10 a.m. For ages birth-8. This inclusive program welcomes children of all abilities and their caregivers to a supportive, judgment-free storytime. Only kids need to register.

Intro to Dwarf Fortress: 1 p.m. For ages 14-adults. In Dwarf Fortress, the free-to-play game that inspired Minecraft, you will generate your own rich fantasy world and then set out with seven dwarfs to establish a mountain outpost. The most inscrutable video game of all time will have you build workshops, farms, mines, kitchens, militias, care for livestock, and much more. Will your fortress stand against goblin attackers? Or will it fall into devastating ruin [spoiler-it will] when you accidentally wake a forest titan made of fire? All attendees need to register.

Free Spirit Book Club: "The Lowland," by Jhumpa Lahiri: 2 p.m. For adults. Please join us for a discussion of our chosen book.

Mommy and Me Laughter Yoga: 2 p.m. For ages 3-12. In this unique class, we will open up a place where we can laugh, be silly, and release the splendor of our inner child with our children who are already masters of laughing for no reason. We will tap into this infinite well of happiness, love, and laughter through a brief introduction, warm ups, laughter games, and relaxation. These classes will be kept laid back, appropriate, and engaging for all ages. Older children and dads are also welcome. Prerequisites: Some experience with laughter and a sense of humor preferred, ho-ho-ho. All attendees need to register.

Service Learning Hours: KidWorks: 5:30 p.m. For ages 12-17. KidWorks meets twice a month. At the first meeting we spend an hour planning a storytime for younger kids. At the second meeting (June 26, July 24, Aug. 28) we present the storytime. You must come to both meetings to earn three service learning hours.

Paint a Bird House Gourd: 7 p.m. For adults. Join a naturalist from Piney Run Nature Center as we turn gourds into decorated bird homes that will look lovely in your yard. All supplies will be provided. All attendees need to register.

Bereavement Support Group: 6:30 p.m. For adults. The Bereavement Support Group will focus on counseling those who have lost someone close to them. This group is open to all grieving people in the community. It will focus on discussion and healing, using counseling, music, writing, and other interaction. This group is hosted by Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care.

We will be recycling old t-shirts and fleece blankets to make tug toys for foster dogs from Bella's Bully Buddies, a local non-profit dog rescue. Come make a toy for your favorite dog and one for a dog still searching for their forever home.

Please bring one skein of worsted weight (medium #4) yarn and size 7 circular needles about 12-14 inches long. Double-pointed needles will be provided.
