Cheapskates are in luck this week, as Carroll is host to three free events for art lovers this weekend. Friday, the JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra will perform their blend of modern and classic hits, while Maria Rose and Danny Elswick perform in Mount Airy on Sunday. In addition to these free concerts, Birdie's Café is hosting their first, themed art show starting Sunday.

JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra Concert

The JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra performs rock and pop hits in completely original arrangements. The orchestra is comprised of students in grades seven through 12 as well as adult volunteers. The orchestra features a classic line-up of instrumentation alongside electric guitars performing to light effects. In addition to the concert, there will be food available for purchase. Organizers recommend bringing a blanket or chair to the outdoor concert.

Under the Big Top art show

Birdie's Cafe is hosting its first themed art show, "Under the Big Top," starting Sunday, July 12. The show will feature two-dimensional pieces created and submitted by local artists inspired by the circus. The artwork featured will be offered for sale. The cafe is still accepting submissions. The artwork cannot be any larger than 30-by-40 inches. To submit, email an image of the piece to underthebigtop2015@gmail.com along with the medium, size and price of the piece.

When: The show opens Sunday, July 12 and runs through August. Birdie's regular hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Birdie's will host an opening reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 17.

Maria Rose and Danny Elswick concert

The Mount Airy Summer Concert series is hosting Maryland country musicians Maria Rose and Danny Elswick. Together the duo has been entered into the Midwest Country Music Hall of Fame. Throughout her career, Rose has released 10 albums and received the Presidential Points of Light award.
