There's a little something for everyone in Carroll this Mother's Day weekend, as events celebrate musical talent, national history and the outdoors. For three straight nights, McDaniel College will host concerts in a variety of genres, showing off the talents of the student body and staff. Saturday and Sunday, Living History reenactors will bring to life one of the earliest battles of the Civil War, while the Bear Branch Nature Center invites children to plant wildflowers for Mother's Day.

McDaniel College concerts
McDaniel College is hosting a series of musical events this week, featuring student and professional performers. Thursday night, McDaniel's department of music hosts its annual Jazz Night concert, featuring performances from three classes as well as faculty members bringing a mixture of classical and current jazz pieces. Friday, the College Band will host their spring concert, with more than 50 students, teachers, alumni and community musicians coming together to perform classical standards to pop hits. Saturday, the trio of concerts completes with the McDaniel Gospel Choir's "We Are Love," performance. The concert, led by music lecturer Shelley Ensor, features an evening of positive gospel music.

Living History Reenactment: The Battle of Big Bethel
Living History members will reenact one of the earliest land battles of the Civil War at the Carroll County Farm Museum Saturday and Sunday. The event starts at 10 a.m. and features a look into a Civil War hospital, a view on how soldiers survived out in the field and a reenactment of the battle itself. In the evening, reenactors will give a night fire demonstration and host a period dance.

Mother's Day Wildflower Walk
The Bear Branch Nature Center is hosting this event for children to celebrate Mother's Day. Participants will be taken on a wildflower walk through the grounds of Hashawha, before returning to the nature center to plant flowers in hand-painted pots to give to mom on Mother's Day. The event is intended for children 3 and older. Registration is required.
