Carroll Night Out: Celebrate Irish heritage in Carroll County

The next two weeks of Carroll entertainment are going to be dedicated to the luck of the Irish as organizations and towns host their St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Saturday, Westminster decks itself out in green for their annual Celtic Canter 5K and Irish Celebration, stretching throughout the downtown area. If you want your celebrations closer to the holiday itself, why not take in a performance by Barleyjuice at the Carroll Arts Center next Friday for their St. Patrick's Day celebration?

Celtic Canter

Celebrate Irish heritage in Westminster this weekend with the seventh annual Celtic Canter 5K and Irish Festival. The 5K takes place through downtown Westminster, with a bagpipe kickoff starting at 9 a.m. The event will also feature a children's Leprechaun Chase, a Whiskey 101 Class and tasting, pub crawl from noon to 4 p.m. and an Irish Celebration with artisans, demonstrations, food vendors and more. Live music will blast out from three separate stages throughout the event.

"Chasing It"

The Carroll County Health Department is hosting a screening of the documentary "Chasing It," which details the heroin crisis in America. The film will be followed by personal testimony from someone in long-term recovery and Beth Schmidt of the Maryland Heroin Awareness Advocates. The event will be led by Linda Auerback, substance abuse prevention supervisor of the Carroll County Health Department.

Barleyjuice

Irish rockers Barleyjuice return to the Carroll Arts Center for another one of their annual St. Patrick's Day concerts. The show will feature their hard-driving style of rock and roll featuring accordions, harmonicas, bagpipes, the bodhran, tin whistle and more. The Friday show falls on St. Patrick's Day, and is sure to be a popular choice for people looking for a holiday celebration.
