Carroll County Public Schools will host a celebration of their student artists with Youth Art Month, taking place at Carroll Community College and the Carroll Arts Center. Work from students from throughout Carroll County elementary, middle and high schools will be displayed for community viewing. The Times has the details on this as well as other cultural happenings throughout the county.

From Feb. 28 to March 19, artwork from Carroll high school students will be exhibited in the main hall of the Carroll Community College Langdon Gallery as part of Youth Art Month. From March 5 to March 18, artwork from Carroll elementary and middle school students will be displayed at galleries at the Carroll Arts Center, with elementary work shown in the first floor Tevis Gallery, and middle school artwork in the second floor Community Gallery. The pieces exhibited were chosen by Carroll County Public Schools teachers as examples of their students' best work.

Alex DePue and Miguel De Hoyos concert

The Carroll County Community Concert Association is hosting a performance by violin-guitar duo Alex DePue and Miguel De Hoyos Monday at Westminster High School. DePue, a classical violinist and fiddler has been honored with a Grammy nomination, Gold Record and was named the "Fiddle King" at the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention. Together with Mexican guitarist Miguel De Hoyos, DePue released the albums "Underground Whispers" and "Twisted Strings."

The duo appeared on the "Mrs. World Pageant" and at the "International Bluegrass Music Association's Grand Master Fiddler Championship.

Music Beyond Borders

The Carroll County String Project is hosting their annual Music Beyond Borders concert at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church Saturday. The concert features violinist Bagus Wiswakarma, cellist Maxim Kozlov and pianist Kathryn Harsha as they perform a selection of international music. The String Project offers lessons to students throughout the county.
