Carroll Night Out: Carroll hosts musical celebrations this week

Ready to finally purge those ever-present holiday tunes from your mind? Well, Carroll's got a trio of concerts and musical events coming up this week to start off the new year with a soulful step.

First, enjoy a free concert as Darla Jean and the Somethin' or Others perform a concert for children and adults alike this Saturday. In addition to the Darla Jean performance, the Westminster High School jazz bands and Project C's dance companies will show off the skills of their student artists this week.

Country band Darla Jean and the Somethin' or Others will perform their blend of blues, bluegrass and originals at the Finksburg branch of the Carroll County Public Library on Saturday. The concert is designed for listeners of all ages and will feature music played on the fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, guitar, banjo, harmonica, and more. Audience members and children are invited to sing along and dance to the high-energy traditional performance.

WHS Jazz Night

Westminster High School is hosting a Jazz Night performance Friday, with appearances by the McDaniel College Faculty Jazz Ensemble, Westminster High School Blue Jazz Band and Owl Jazz Ensemble. Refreshments will be on sale at the school. Money raised through the concert will support Westminster High School's instrumental music programs.

GLOW Dance Recital

Two of Project C Studios' student companies, Catalyst Dance Company and Reaction Dance Company, will host the premiere of the 2017 season Saturday, Jan. 7. The recital will feature work by student choreographers as well as pieces by choreographers Morgan Anderson, Laurie Dodge, Emily Runkle and more. The show will feature a guest performance by the Project C youth program dancers and will take place at the studio at 519 Old Westminster Pike, Suite 4, in Westminster.
