Carroll Night Out: Events celebrate the past this weekend

Carroll County is hosting a trio of events, each looking back to the past, to keep you entertained. Catch some new takes of old favorites at Winters Mill High School, as students perform their renditions of four famous television shows. On Saturday, guests have a chance to relive their childhood at the annual Farm Toy Show at the Carroll County Agriculture Center. Finally, learn some history at the Carroll Arts Center, as they host a screening of the film "Selma" in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Winters Mill High School drama One Acts

Winters Mill High School drama students have directed these four one-act plays, which will be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Each one-act consists of a parody of a different show from television history, including "I Love Lucy," "The Brady Bunch," "Friends" and "Bob's Burgers."

When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, Friday, Jan. 15, Saturday, Jan. 16

Where: Winters Mill High School, 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster

Farm Toy Show


The Central Maryland Farm Toy Show has offered deals on historic and antique toys since 1987. Collectors of tractors, trains, dolls, games, models and other forms of farm toys will come together at the Shipley Arena to find that missing piece of their collection or just chat about the childhoods of past.

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with this Oscar-winning depiction of one of his most iconic achievements. The film, directed by Ava DuVernay, tells the story of the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in support of equal voting rights for all. The film stars David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr., and was nominated for Best Picture at the 2014 Academy Awards.

When: 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18

Where: Carroll Arts Center, 91 W. Main St., Westminster

Cost: $6 adults, $5 Carroll County Arts Council members, children 18 and younger and seniors older than 60. Tickets are free to anyone who has volunteered for a nonprofit during the past year.
