Religion briefs: Saint Joseph presents ‘Live With Passion’ led by Father Cedric Pisegna

From Sept. 17 through Sept. 19, Saint Joseph Catholic Community will be presenting a series of services led by Father Cedric Pisegna.

On Monday, Sept. 17, the mission theme is “Night of Hope”; on Tuesday, “God’s Mercy” and “Our Surrender with Reconciliation;” and on Wednesday, “The Spirit of God’s Love” and they will also address the source of passion and discipline/self-control with Mass of the Holy Spirit. There will be time for quiet personal prayer and they will have music in each service.


Also, on Sept. 15 and 16, Father Cedric will be preaching a “call to mission,” and on Sept. 17, starting at 8:30 a.m., they will host a mass and at 7 p.m., people will be able to take the time to reflect on the mission.

Oakland UMC to hold auction

Going, Going, Gone! Oakland United Methodist Church will hold its 13th annual auction on Sept. 15. Doors open at 4 p.m. Bidding starts at 5. Purchase your number for $2 at the door. High Holiday services at Westminster Synagogue

Westminster Synagogue, now in its 14th year, will be holding High Holiday services. Yom Kippur Eve services (Kol Nidre) will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18 and Yom Kippur services on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Songfest benefit for Trinity UCC set for Sept. 30

Lazarus United Church of Christ is hosting a Songfest which will be very similar to a traditional hymnsing on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. to benefit Trinity United Church of Christ’s roof project. There will be several soloists, both vocal and instrumental, along with choirs from area churches to make this an exciting and fun afternoon of music.

The purpose of this event is to help raise money to aid Trinity Church in the roof restoration project that occurred earlier this year. A free-will offering will be taken at this event. Trinity, reached out to sister church Lazarus UCC in the first week after a fire at Lazarus to aid and support. Now, Lazarus would like to in turn show them love and support, according to Pastor Rodney Gross. Their goal is to fill the church for this event and ask all to come out to Lazarus and have an afternoon of song and fellowship.

St. Matthew’s UCC to honor ‘community helpers’

St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, 1427 Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, will be honoring “community helpers” on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 at their 10:45 a.m. worship service. All helpers in the area are invited such as firefighters, paramedics and all EMS personnel, nurses, bus drivers, policemen, doctors, local government officials, babysitters, etc. They would like to have as many areas represented as possible to show their appreciation for many of the people who so willingly serve our community. St. Matthew’s ‘Blessing of the Animals’ set for Oct. 7

On Sunday, Oct. 7, St. Matthew's will have “The Blessing of the Animals” service at 10:45 a.m. They ask all to bring pets and other animals for a very special blessing, noting that they have had much success and fun with this day in the past.
