Religion Briefs: Mount Zion Finksburg Celebrates its 162 anniversary

The Mount Zion congregation in Finksburg will celebrate its 162nd anniversary of its founding on Sunday morning, June 10 at their 9:55 a.m. worship service. The congregation was formed in 1856 as a Methodist Protestant Church.

A special worship service is planned with three guests sharing their personal faith story, Daisy Atkinson-Levy, church musician Leslie Gabler and Assistant Principal Brian Blake from the Sharp Leadenhall Elementary School in Baltimore City. The Mount Zion congregation has a missional relationship with the elementary school. Following the worship service there will be the annual anniversary luncheon in the church social hall. The public is invited.

Emmanuel UCC summer worship starts June 10

Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ will begin their summer worship this Sunday, June 10. Worship time will remain at 10 a.m. The worship will be a 7 week animated series with the theme “Practices.” This Sunday will be on prayer.

Annual Colonial Day at the Historic Strawbridge Shrine

The public is invited free of charge to walk the grounds of the historic Strawbridge Shrine on Saturday, June 16th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The site of the first Wesleyan Methodist settlement by Robert & Elizabeth Strawbridge who came from Ireland in about 1760. Tour the historic buildings, the Evans House 1764, the replica Log Meeting House and the Strawbridge House where parts of the original 1760 building can still be seen.. Come and see local artists and other colonial workers in full costume. Music provided by the New Windsor Consort and the Hammered Dulcimer. Colonial games for children and a free photo op. Active shooter program to be held for church leaders

Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy will be hosting a program entitled “Citizen Response to an Active Shooter Event” for church leaders on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

The program will be conducted by Sgt. Jonathan Hill of the Maryland State Police. It will be in the Good Shepherd Hall of the church, which is at 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy.

St. Peter's Lutheran VBS set for June 18-22

St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 4300 Church Road, Hampstead, will host a vacation Bible school June 18 through 22 from 6:30-8:15 pm. All children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited to participate.

This year's program is “Hero Central: Discover Your Strength in God.” Each daily Bible point is carefully integrated into music, art & crafts, and group gatherings. Snacks and refreshments are provided each night along with games, outdoor play and other fun activities. Registration will be held at 6:00pm on June 18. Deer Park UMC, Calvary UMC combing for VBS

Deer Park and Calvary United Methodist Churches are combining their Vacation Bible School to bring you ““Rolling River Rampage,” where kids will learn that Jesus is with them even in the rapids, and life with God is an adventure full of wonder. The fun will take place on June 18-22 at Deer Park UMC, 2205 Sykesville Road/Md. 32, Westminster, from 6 to 8 p.m. Children 3 years old through middle-school age will participate in energizing music, super science, cool crafts, delicious snacks, and more. Also, an optional light meal will be offered at 5:15 each evening. This event is free of charge, but registration is required. Wesley UMC offers VBS June 18-22

Wesley United Methodist Church will also be holding a Vacation Bible School with the theme “Rolling River Rampage.” The school will take place from June 18 through June 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Faith Lutheran VBS set for late June

Faith Lutheran Church, LCMS, Eldersburg announces its Vacation Bible School, “Splash Canyon.” The program will run from Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to children age 3 (by Jan. 1, 2018) through 12.

The children will learn that life is full of thrills and spills, and that only God knows what is around the bend. They will discover that Jesus is God's promise on life's wild ride. Westminster Baptist plans VBS for July

Westminster Baptist Church is planning its annual Vacation Bible School, July 9-13, for children age 4 through fifth grade.The theme this summer is Space Probe — Seeking out The God of the Universe. Each day begins 9:15 am and ends at 12:15 p.m. The morning is filled with air- and space-themed activities that relate to God's Word. ‘Witness to Innocence’ rescheduled at Deer Park UMC

On Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m., the Deer Park United Methodist Church Speaker Series will present “Witness to Innocence: Featuring Death Row Exoneree Randal Padgett.” Hear how Randal spent 5 years on Alabama’s death row for a crime he did not commit. He was acquitted in October 1997, and his story has been featured in several books on the quest for justice. This event was originally scheduled for March 21 but was postponed due to a snowstorm.

Deer Park UMC is located at 2205 Sykesville Road, Westminster, at the intersection of Md. 32 and Deer Park Road. The event is open to the public, with registration requested (see www.dpumc.net).
