Carnival season in Carroll County: What you need to know

As the weather warms, so does the event schedule in Carroll County — especially with fire company carnivals.

From late May to mid-August, towns and cities across the county fill their summer weeks with the smell of funnel cakes, rides, raffles and music at the various fire company carnival grounds.


The carnival season this year starts in Gamber on Friday and is scheduled to end in Hampstead on Aug. 12.


When: Friday, May 24 through Saturday, June 1 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.


Where: 3838 Niner Road

Highlights: There will be three raffles: the major raffle, the fire company raffle and the auxiliary raffle. The major raffle will have a first-place prize of $7,500, a second-place prize of $1,500, a third-place prize of $500, and fourth- and fifth-place prizes of $250. The fire company raffle’s first-place winner will get a half side of beef, cut and wrapped to order, and second place will get a $200 gift card to Martin’s grocery store. The auxiliary raffle first-place prize is a 55-inch LG/UHD TV, second place is a Samsung Galaxy Tab A, third place is a crab feast for 25 people and fourth place is an afghan.

Entertainment: May 24: Rich and the Roadrunners; May 25: Bootleg; May 26: Midnight Run; May 27: Fireworks display with music by Full Effect; May 28: Twenty Dollar Prophets; May 30: Salem Bottom Boys; May 31: ForePlay; June 1: Surreal.

Note: The carnival will be closed May 29.


Union Bridge

When: Monday, May 27 through Saturday, June 1 starting at 6 p.m.

Where: 8 W. Locust St.

Highlights: There will be a silent auction all week with available prizes including antiques, collectibles, handcrafted items, overnight stays, golf, baseball tickets, Skyzone addition, carriage rides and more. There will also be cash drawings — first place gets $2,500, second place gets $1,000 and third place gets $500. There will also be platters featuring fried chicken, fried ham sandwiches, hot dogs, funnel cakes, fried Oreos, pit beef and more.

Entertainment: May 27: Hurricane Productions; May 28: Boot Leg; May 29: Fireman’s Parade at 7 p.m. sharp; May 30: Dixie Wind Band; May 31: Brick Yard Road Band; June 1: 4 Warned Band.

New Windsor

When: Monday, June 3 through Saturday, June 8 starting at 5:30 p.m. daily.

Where: 101 High St.

Highlights: There will be a parade Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. There will be a seafood, gift card and produce raffle. The prizes include a bushel of steamed crabs, five pounds of steamed shrimp, five pounds of snow crab legs, a $50 gift card to Frankie’s Bar and Grill, and a produce bundle from Local Homestead productions. There will also be a cash drawing — first place gets $4,000, second place gets $1,000, third place gets $500 and fourth through eighth places get $100.

Entertainment: June 3: Fire prevention contest in the New Windsor station; June 4: Mobile Music Machine; June 5: DJ Jamin’ Jason; June 6: Carroll County Ramblers; June 7: Bootleg; June 8: High Voltage.


When: Monday, June 10 through Saturday, June 15

Where: 49 Memorial Drive

Highlights: Saturday there will be a big cash drawing — the first-prize winner will get $2,000. They will also serve platters featuring food such as chicken sandwiches, fish, crabcakes, meatloaf, roast beef sandwiches and more.

Entertainment: June 10: Bootleg; June 11: Dixie Wind Band; June 12: Silver Eagle; June 13: Half Serious Band; June 14: Different Sisters; June 15: Borderline.


When: Saturday, June 15 through Saturday, June 22 starting at 6 p.m. daily.

Where: 6880 Sykesville Road

Highlights: On Father’s Day, dads ride free, and there will be fireworks display on Friday. Tuesday through Thursday, wristbands will be $20 and $25 the other days.

Entertainment: June 15: Cruise; June 16: DJ Colin Clark; June 17: Gravy; June 18: 20 Dollar Profit; June 19: Full Effect; June 20: Midnight Run; June 21: Doug Lester Band; June 22: Problem Child.


When: Monday, June 24 through Saturday, June 29 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Where: 5130 Harney Road

Highlights: There will be outside food stands, inflatable rides, money drawings and nightly bingo all week.

Entertainment: June 24: Hanover Express; June 25: Half Serious; June 26: Boderline; June 27: Big Wheely and the White Walls; June 28: Silver Eagle Band; June 29: Dixie Wind Band.


When: Saturday, July 1 through Thursday, July 6 from 6 to 11 p.m.

Where: 3297 York St.

Highlights: Platters will be served nightly. Kids can take advantage of ride-all-night wrist bands for $20 each. There will also be rides, games, gun jars, money wheel, dime pinch, a big money raffle and more.

Entertainment: July 1: Elly Cook and Drew Cooks’ band Lyve Bayte; July 2: Josh Christina; July 3: The Cruisers; July 4: Bootleg; July 5: Rich & the Roadrunners with Elvis; July 6: Dixie Wind Band.


When: Monday, July 8 through Saturday, July 13, starting at 4 p.m. daily.

Where: 1320 W. Old Liberty Road

Highlights: There will be raffles, buffet dinners served nightly from 4 to 7, rides, fireworks and music.

Entertainment: July 8: The Mahoney Brothers; July 9: Red Dirt Revolution; July 10: The Dixie Wind Band; July 11: Half Serious; July 12: Dean Crawford & Dunn’s River Band; July 13: Bootleg.


When: Monday, July 15 through Saturday, July 20 from 5 to 11 p.m.

Where: 1745 Baltimore Blvd.

Highlights: There will be glass pitch, gun jar, bingo, instant bingo, big nine wheel, big six wheel, candy wheel, raffles and more.

Entertainment: July 15: Jay Henley & the Stone Broke Band; July 16: Half Serious; July 17: EverRise; July 18: Eclipse; July 19: Dean Crawford & the Dunn River Band; July 20: Salem Bottom Boys.

Mount Airy

When: Monday, July 22 through Saturday, July 27

Highlights: Rides, cash raffle and beer garden.

Highlights: There will be games, raffles and rides and food platters featuring roast beef, chicken and shrimp.


Entertainment: Aug. 12: Josh & Good Old Stuff with Josh Christina; Aug. 13: Iron Ridge; Aug. 16: Bootleg; Aug. 17: Dean Crawford & The Dunn’s River Band.
