Ringing in the New Year in Carroll County and beyond

As we say farewell to 2017 and make the last-minute alterations to our resolution lists, it can be difficult to figure out how best to ring in 2018. Sunday night, Carroll will greet the New Year with a host of celebrations for children, adults and families of all ages.


Get your New Year’s celebrations started early with a special New Year’s Eve brunch at The County Cork Wine Pub, held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the pub at 1716 Liberty Road. The brunch will feature an all-you-can-drink Bloody Mary bar and mimosas. Then starting at 5 p.m., they are hosting a New Year’s dinner with a three-course prix fixe menu, live music by Greg Kneller and champagne toast for $94. Get out your aggressions toward 2017 on New Year’s Eve by chucking a 12-pound ball at a bunch of pins at Greenmount Bowl’s holiday celebration. Sessions at the alley, 1625 N. Main St., are available from noon to 2 p.m., 3 to 5 p.m., 6 to 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for $17 a person. The final session features a champagne toast, party favors and more for the first time.

Indulge Nasty Habitz as the band takes the stage at the American Legion Riders Post 200, 4600 Legion Lane, Hampstead. This event is free and open to the public, all they request is that guests bring a dish or snack to share. The party starts at 8 p.m. and runs through 1 a.m.


Mount Airy

Celebrate the new year at Memories House with football, drinks and dancing. The restaurant, located at 403 E. Ridgeville Blvd. will feature special drink and menu deals during the Baltimore and Washington D.C. games starting at 1 p.m. In the evening, DJ Mike Reed will take the stage at 9 p.m. with a champagne toast at midnight.


Thunderhead Bowl, 4337 Old Taneytown Road, is offering special rates on New Year’s bowling, with unlimited bowling from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., shoe rentals, pin prizes, a pizza per lane, champagne and more for $29.95 for adults and $19.95 if booked by Dec. 29. Antrim 1844, 30 Trevanion Road, will host a luxury seven-course dinner on New Year’s Eve starting at 7 p.m. During the dinner a pianist will perform for the guests followed by dancing on the Veranda and Auld Lang Syne performed on the bagpipe at midnight. Tickets are $175 per person with $60 per person for an optional wine pairing.


Martin’s Westminster is hosting its annual New Year’s Eve celebration at 140 Village Shopping Center. The event will feature live music by Bootleg, a buffet including tenderloin of beef and turkey, stuffed hen breast, herb encrusted salmon, jumbo lump crab cakes, vegetarian lasagna and an open bar. Tickets are $62.50 per person and can be purchased online at www.martinscaterers.com.

Westminster’s Church of the Ascension will ring in the new year with a New Year’s Eve Watch Night prayer service in the historic stone church, 23 N. Court St. The event begins at 5 p.m. with a potluck supper with the church service beginning at 6 p.m.

Enjoy a dinner and dance on the largest dance floor in the county at the Westminster Moose Family Center’s annual New Year’s Dinner and Dance. The event held at the family center at 309 Buena Vista Drive, will feature live music by Rich and the Roadrunners, a pot roast dinner from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and an open bar from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. Never Never will take the stage for The Stables Restaurant’s annual New Year’s Eve Party starting at 9 p.m. and running until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Prior to the concert, the restaurant will host a New Year’s Eve dinner served from 7 to 9 p.m. with champagne at midnight. Dinners include a choice between crab cakes, stuffed tilapia, lobster tail and steak, stuffed oysters, Cajun shrimp and more. Tickets range between $20 and $55.

Around the Area

For those looking to get out of Carroll County for the evening, Baltimore is hosting its annual New Year’s Eve Spectacular starting at 9 p.m. on the Inner Harbor with music from R&B artist Alexis Joyce at the inner Harbor Amphitheater. For more information on the spectacular, call 410-752-8632.

Frederick will host its annual New Year’s Eve Key Drop along Carroll Creek. The festivities start around 11 p.m. while visitors gather to watch a hand-crafted lighted key descend from the William O. Lee Memorial Bridge at midnight.

Each year, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, goes all out for New Year’s Eve. The event this year starts with a free family movie at 25 Carlisle St. with a screening of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Meanwhile, Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., will host magician John Wolf, music by Dearest Home, Christ Lutheran musicians, Celtic music and more until midnight. Lincoln Square is the center of entertainment starting at 9 p.m. with DJs, bands, baton twirlers and a midnight fireworks display.
