Friday is March 1, the time when we begin to feel like spring is in the air. Here at the Carroll Arts Center, we’re gearing up for a whole new slate of events, and of course, the PEEPshow!
Get in the mood for a brighter season and find out more about all our programs at www.carrollcountyartscouncil.org. If you aren’t a member of the Carroll County Arts Council, please consider joining. A family membership is only $40, and you get a 10 percent discount on most programs.
If you enjoyed the Documentary Film Series and the Foreign Film Festival presented by Film Lovers in Carroll County, keep the ball rolling by joining us for the classic “Lawrence of Arabia,” Friday, March 8 at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Come see this film as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. British Lieutenant T.E. Lawrence (Peter O’Toole) heads to Arabia to find Prince Faisal (Alec Guinness) and serve as a liaison between the Arabs and the British in their fight against the Turks. With the aid of native Sherif Ali (Omar Sharif), Lawrence rebels against orders and strikes out on a daring camel journey across the harsh desert.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 9. For two shows, at 3 and 7 p.m., Teelin Irish Dance will be on hand with their innovative presentation that features spirited Irish dance and a variety of live Celtic music.

The next night, Saturday, March 9, don’t miss Teelin Irish Dance! For two shows, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., they will bring their innovative presentation that features spirited Irish dance and a variety of live Celtic music. Their thunderous percussive choreography is only surpassed by the thunderous applause when this talented dance company takes the stage. Tickets are $18 for adults and $14 for students and seniors, and they are sure to go fast! Thanks to Blair Reid and John Glenn for sponsoring this event.
Keep that Celtic energy going for the next weekend when we bring back a perennial favorite, Barleyjuice! Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Philadelphia’s Celtic Rockers are back, along with their rowdy following of “Juicers.” Get your tickets early—they regularly sell out. Tickets are $30 for adults and $27 for students and seniors. Thanks to Dr. Patrick Gallagher, O’Lourdan’s Irish Pub, and Ting for sponsoring this event!
A View from the Gallery
The month of March is Youth Art Month here at the Carroll Arts Center! From March 6 through 26, all three of our galleries will be filled with colorful creativity in this annual showcase featuring the best student art from our county’s elementary and middle schools. It’s also a joyful reflection on the wonderful art teachers in our school system. Join us Tuesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 14 for the opening receptions, where you can congratulate the young artists between 5 and 7 p.m. each night.
Any trip to a grocery store, Target or Walmart will confirm that Easter is quickly approaching, and here in Carroll County, that means PEEPshow! If you want to enter a marshmallow masterpiece into the exhibit, you can register online until March 15, plan out and prepare your confectionery creation. If you are more of a spectator than and exhibitor, mark your calendar for April 12-23. The 12th Annual PEEPshow will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day during that period, with extended hours until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Join us for all the fun you have come to expect, including the PEEP-Mobile, PEEPs mascots, PEEPs candy, and new this year — PEEPs slushies! Come vote for your favorites!
Behind the Scenes
Join Susan Williamson for our Spring Art History series, three Thursdays in March, April, and May. Things kick off on Thursday, March 28 with “Bernini and Borromini, Architects of Baroque Rome” from 1 to 2 p.m. You can get tickets for the whole series for $20.
If you have a budding actor in your family in grades 6 through 8, sign them up to Take the Stage. This class is designed to boost their self-esteem and explore their creativity without the pressure of learning lines. The young actors-to-be will learn basic theatre skills, public speaking skills, short & long term improvisation, and spontaneity through games and exercises in a fun, fast-paced, and supportive environment. The class runs six Saturday mornings, April 27 through June 1 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sign up at www.carrollcountyartscouncil.org.
