Starting June 18, we once again have free Summer Family Movies every Tuesday night through August, 6. Thanks to Ting for sponsoring the series! Our first movie, June 18, is “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” sponsored by Rhoten’s Printing. The doors open each week at 6:30 p.m. and movies begin at 7 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served, and concessions will be for sale.

The Film Lovers In Carroll County (FLICC) present “Leave No Trace,” Friday, June 21 at 1 p.m. (captioned) and 7:30 p.m. This powerful tale of self-reliance features a veteran with PTSD and his daughter, who are forced to abandon their peaceful, voluntary isolation in the forests and embark on a harrowing journey back to their home. Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.

On Saturday, June 29 at 8 p.m. we welcome Wherligig to our stage. An ensemble of traditional Celtic and Nordic string and wind instruments playing a repertoire from the British Isles and Northern Europe, Wherligig has performed for audiences all over the Mid-Atlantic. Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for students and seniors.

We are also excited to be holding Carroll’s Got Talent this year at the Carroll County Fair on July 31. If you are interested in participating in this good-natured talent competition, please go to our website and fill out an application by June 19.

A View from the Gallery

This is the last week to view our exhibits “Rock, Paper, Scissors” in the Tevis Gallery and the work of the Carroll County Artists Guild in the Community Gallery. These exhibits end June 14.

Beginning June 20, “The Art of the Musical Instrument” opens in the Tevis Gallery, guest curated by Ryan A. Koons, Ph.D. Weaving together sound, narrative, history, and actual instruments, this exhibit focuses on musical instruments as crafted art objects with diverse histories, in addition to objects that create beautiful sounds. Wherligig will take our stage on June 29, using several instrument from the exhibit. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, June 20 from 5 to 7 pm.

Also opening on June 20 in the Community Gallery is our annual exhibit of the Carroll County Camera Club. Always a crowd-pleaser, you won’t want to miss this amazing photography!

Behind the Scenes

Check out our summer camps! For kids 9 to 12, we are offering Art Expressions, June 24-28. This week will be busy with arts and crafts, experimenting with different art media and enjoying gallery walks. Weather permitting, they will have lunch breaks at King Park. The younger kids, ages 5 to 8, can participate in Kids Need More Art, July 8-12. They will get a fun introduction to the arts through a creative mix of craft projects, drawing and painting, games, and more.

For the budding thespian in your home, we have two different theatre camps. Ages 8-10 can enroll in Theatre Camp, June 24-28, in which campers will produce a full length pay written just for our stage, complete with costumes and scenery. Older campers, ages 10–13, will be immersed for 2 weeks in Musical Theatre Camp, July 8-19. They get to experience the magic and excitement of live musical theatre as they learn dialogue, music, and choreography for a large-scale musical production. You can get all the information and register at our website.

If you aren’t a member of the Carroll County Arts Council yet, please consider joining. Members get a 10% discount on most programs.
