This Friday, April 5, Film Lovers in Carroll County (FLICC) present “Colette” at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. After moving to Paris, author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette agrees to ghostwrite a semi-autobiographical novel for her husband. Thanks to Byrdcall Studios for sponsoring this movie!

The next night, Saturday, April 6, our friends at Common Ground on the Hill are hosting The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc. If you’re a fan of legal thrillers, join Carroll County Public Library and A Likely Story Bookstore on Monday, April 8 as they present An Evening with Lisa Scottoline, the New York Times bestselling author of 32 novels. It’s just a little over a week until our annual celebration of marshmallow masterpieces! Join us April 12 through 23 for the Carroll County Arts Council’s 12th Annual PEEPshow.

This sweet event features more than 150 sculptures, graphic arts, oversized characters and mosaics created and inspired by PEEPs candy. In our theatre, enjoy short PEEP videos and footage of PEEPs being created at the Just Born factory.

All this marshmallow madness is a fundraiser for the Carroll County Arts Council. Your votes count toward selecting the Grand Prize Winner and Audience Favorites. Vote chips are sold at the entrance — make sure to get plenty! You can also vote online for your favorites. The top 5 entries that receive the most online votes also get a prize.

Of course, PEEPshow is about more than the art — it’s about the time-honored theatre tradition of concessions. Our concession stand offers PEEPs and other candy, PEEP popcorn and, new this year, slushies in souvenir PEEP drink cups! Join us for all the fun you have come to expect, including the PEEP-mobile and PEEPs mascots.

The 12th annual PEEPshow takes place April 12-23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with extended hours until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Behind the Scenes

If you have a budding actor in your family in grades 6 through 8, sign them up to Take the Stage. This class is designed to boost their self-esteem and explore their creativity without the pressure of learning lines. The young actors-to-be will learn basic theatre skills, public speaking skills, short & long term improvisation, and spontaneity through games and exercises in a fun, fast-paced, and supportive environment. The class runs six Saturday mornings, April 27 through June 1 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sign up at www.carrollcountyartscouncil.org.

Encourage your child’s creativity with our Make It and Take It Art Class series! This session of classes is more than refrigerator art. Each work of art will be properly mounted to be hung on a wall or sculptural to be used as decoration.

The classes are taught by different teachers who bring their own skill, creativity and enthusiasm to each class. Ages 5-8 meet on for six Tuesdays beginning April 30, and ages 9-12 meet six Thursdays beginning May 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

It’s not too early to start thinking about summer camp! Our art and theatre camps begin June 24 and run through July 19, depending on the subject and ages. Register online at our website.
