Holiday Hope: With $90,000 in the bank, $30,000 more needed to reach Christmas goal

With more than $90,000 raised thus far, we are three-quarters of the way to our goal of $120,000 by Christmas with five days left.

The latest contributions included $1,000 from the Taylor family in honor of helping those in need, $500 in memory of Clarence Eckard Sr., $400 from John and Pat Baumgardner in memory of all our cherished departed loved ones, and in honor of Matt, Brandy, Alexa and Lucas Day, Greg, Amy, Ben and Aubrey Anderson, and Derek, Joelma and Olivia Baumgardner, $300 from Silver Run-Union Mills Lions Club in memory of Glenn Matthias, Lion charter member, $300 from Terry Brothers in honor of Christopher, Ally, Wyatt, Kevin and Keri Brothers, $200 in memory of Melvin and Anne Jeffers, $200 in memory of Maurice F. and Virginia Baile and $100 in memory of Maurice H. and Ethel Baile.


Also received was $100 from Bowman and Haines families in memory of Brenda Haines, Sandi Bowman and Charles Bowman, $100 from Larrie, Betsy, Laurie and Jennifer Bostic in memory of Doug Menchey, $100 from Karen Harrington and family in memory of Jim Harrington, $100 from Neil Fleming Young in memory of Larue Harrison Fleming, $100 from Bill and Linda Stitley in memory of Betty Sensabaugh, $100 from Carroll Hospital PACU and Peri-op staff in honor of Lisa Burmeister, $50 from Charlie and Lynn Spencer, $50 from David and Lois Smith, $50 from Kimberly Craft in honor of Jerome and Karen/Byrd Manor, $50 from Jackie McClain in honor of the Slipper Club, $50 in honor of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Eldersburg, $50 in honor of military veterans, and 16 anonymous donations totaling $3,215.

Holiday Hope is an annual campaign, now in its 20th year, in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice, Access Carroll and The Shepherd’s Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays. This year’s goal is to raise $120,000 for the five partner charities by Christmas.

This year, Carroll Community Bank is assisting the Times in processing donations. Donations may also be dropped off at Carroll Community Bank branches in Westminster and Eldersburg.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Access Carroll offers integrated healthcare services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.

The Shepherd’s Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.
