Holiday Hope: Campaign surpasses $20,000 mark

With less than three weeks until Christmas, the 2018 Holiday Hope campaign has surpassed the $20,000 mark toward its goal of $120,000 for our partner charities thanks to this baker’s dozen of donations.

The latest donations received included $550 from Donna Berneski in memory of Thomas W. Berneski, $150 from Nita Fennell in memory of Janet McDowell, Charlotte Steers and Jane Reck, $100 from Lorna Rice in memory of Dana Rice, $100 from Marilyn Sawaya in memory of Ed Sawaya, $100 in memory of Chuck Edwards, $100 in memory of Bonnie Kennedy, $100 in memory of Jeanetta Sloman, and $100 from Frederick Frevert in honor of the volunteers and The Shepherd’s Staff.


Also received was $50 from Tivis Buckingham in memory of Harry and Elizabeth Buckingham and Dolores Farver — deeply missed, $50 from Connie Zumbrum in memory of Dean Zumbrum and Dallas Wampler, $50 from Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hylan, $25 from Susan C. Kirker in memory of Charlotte Beam, and one anonymous donation of $500.

Holiday Hope is an annual campaign, now in its 20th year, in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice, Access Carroll and The Shepherd’s Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays. This year’s goal is to raise $120,000 for the five partner charities by Christmas.

This year, Carroll Community Bank is assisting the Times in processing donations. To participate in Holiday Hope, simply clip the donation form, fill it out and mail it along with a check made out to the appropriate charity to: Carroll Community Bank Attn: Holiday Hope, 29 Westminster Shopping Center, Westminster, MD 21157.

Donations may also be dropped off at Carroll Community Bank branches in Westminster and Eldersburg.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county’s needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Access Carroll offers integrated health care services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.

The Shepherd’s Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.
