Holiday Hope: Campaign surpasses goal with $114,800 raised; thank you Carroll County!

We’ve checked our math, checked it twice, and Carroll County, this year you’ve been incredibly nice. Thanks to your amazing generosity, the 2017 Holiday Hope campaign has not just met but surpassed our $110,000 goal by raising $114,837.17 with time to spare before Christmas.

Just because we’ve met our goaldoesn’t mean time is up. There is still time to donate to these five great causes — Access Carroll, Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice and The Shepherd's Staff — to help the less fortunate here in Carroll County.


The latest contributions that put us over the top included $1,000 from Layer8 Consulting Inc., $702 from Westminster United Methodist Church, $400 in memory of Gloria Barnes and Mary Dell Wickham, $359.42 from Deer Park United Methodist Church of Westminster, $300 from Curtis and Lisa Choplin in memory of Curtis Choplin Sr. and Lucille Wilson, Jean Choplin, Virginia Moody, Nannie and Poppie B., $280 from Westminster retired postal employees, $250 from Tom and Mary Berlin in honor of their grandchildren — Thomas, Adam and Abi, $250 from Tom and Margaret Welliver in honor of Dr. Daniel Welliver, $200 from Joanne Gist in memory of Charles “Dick” Gist and his son Jeffery Gist, $200 from Uncle Gary Roop in memory of Charles R. Stambaugh and $200 from daughter Pam in memory of Alfhild Feustel.

Additional donations included $100 from Sharon, Bobby, Hayley and Zachary Summers in memory of Robert E. Summers Sr., $100 from the Sterling Carr family in memory of Clara L. Carr, $100 from Tom and Brenda Lentzner in memory of William H. and Ethel L. Lentzner, $100 from Chuck and Vicki Griffin in memory of Vestal and Dorothy Leatherman, $100 from Sylvia Gross in memory of Wilbur Gross, $100 from Terry Brothers in honor of new grandson — Wyatt Brothers, $100 in memory of R.J. Will, $50 from Brenda Higgs in memory of Bob Higgs, Albert and Evelyn Nickoles, $50 from MacAleese family in memory of William D. MacAleese, $50 in honor of those who kneel to heal, $50 from Justin and Brittany Eckard, $25 from Terri Whitestone in memory of Sarah Whitestone-Steen and 11 anonymous donations totaling $1,570.

The Shepherd's Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Access Carroll offers integrated health care services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.
