Holiday Hope: Almost there! $107K toward $110K Christmas Day goal

An anonymous $5,000 donation and 49 additional contributions totaling nearly $3,500 have us on the cusp of reaching our 2017 Holiday Hope goal of $110,000 for our five partner charities with two days left until Christmas.

The latest donations included $300 from Matthew John Merryman in memory of Matthew John Payne, $300 from Martha Wiseman in memory of Gerry Wiseman, $300 from loved ones in memory of Judi and John Mellon, $100 from Robert Wickham and Mary Ellen Wickham in memory of Mary Dell Wickham, $100 in memory of Karolyn and Bob Bair and Josie and Greg Ritter, $100 from the Bostic family in memory of Doug Menchey, $100 from Larrie and Betsy Mann Bostic and daughters in memory of their parents and grandparents, $100 from Joanne Cooney Wood in memory of John and Joe Cooney Sr., Jack Wood, Winston and Ruth Bullock Sr., $100 from Richard and Sherry Clower in memory of Sam Case, $100 from Ken and Melissa Miller in memory of their parents and $100 from Gypsy’s Tearoom.


Also received was $90 from William and Carolyn Lawton, $59 from sons and daughters — Cindy, Wendy and Dwight — in memory of their mother Dorothy C. Mullinix, $50 in memory of Susan (Bair) and Don Blucher, $50 from Maureen Scheper Fox in memory of Catherine Walsh Scheper, $50 in memory of Patricia Callahan, $50 in memory of Jeff Ritter, $25 in memory of “our parents,” $15 from Davie Nicholson and family in memory of Charles and Ruth Nicholson, and 30 anonymous donations totaling $1,370.

Holiday Hope is an annual campaign in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Access Carroll, Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice and The Shepherd's Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays. This year’s goal is to raise $110,000 for the five partner charities by Christmas.

The Shepherd's Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Access Carroll offers integrated health care services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.
