A $5,000 contribution to the 2017 Holiday Hope campaign, in memory of Florence Gallimore from her daughter and son-in-law, was among 40 donations received totaling more than $10,000 that has brought the amount raised to $83,718.75 with five more days until Christmas.

Holiday Hope is an annual campaign in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Access Carroll, Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice and The Shepherd's Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays. This year’s goal is to raise $110,000 for the five partner charities by Dec. 25.


Among the donations received was $500 from Josie and Ralph Woods in memory of Linda Mayo and Irene Woods, $500 from Bryan and Shirley Kendall, $500 from the New Windsor Lions Club, $200 from Bruce and Sally Woodward in memory of Ken and Charlotte Barnes and Gardner and Nannie Woodward, $200 from Terry Brothers’ family in memory of Vincent (Pop) and Mary (Mom) Fiore, and $150 from Laura and Scott Moser in honor of Bill and Jackie Thompson.

Additional contributions included $100 from Betty L. Blauvelt in memory of Joann A. Rhoten and Pete Blauvelt, $100 from Yvonne Aasen in memory of sister Louise Bobzin, $100 from Joan Myers in memory of Jim Myers, $100 from Casey and Shelby Fair in memory of Kenneth Fair, $100 from Charlene and Steve Lentzner in memory of their son, Michael, $100 from Steve and Mary Hayes in memory of Andy Hayes, $100 from Allen Anthony in memory of Carl Anthony, $100 in memory of Paul Merkel, $100 from VFW Auxiliary Post 467 and $100 from Alice C. Immler.

Even more donations to the campaign included $75 from Emily and Robert Brown, $50 from Lois Mathis and children in memory of Jim Mathis, $50 from Darlene in honor of Gloria Bair and Wanda Hall, $25 from Deanne Grayson in memory of Gloria Barnes, $25 in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, $20 in memory of Clarence, Mae, Becky and Dale Freyman, and 16 anonymous donations totaling $1,725.

This year, Carroll Community Bank is assisting the Times in processing donations. The Shepherd's Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Access Carroll offers integrated health care services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.
