Holiday Hope: Accounting firm's large donation, others put total raised at more than $70,000

A $3,600 donation from Friends from Sturgill & Associations in memory of Kevin “Night Shift” Campbell and 33 other contributions have pushed the 2017 Holiday Hope campaign beyond $70,000 raised for our five partner charities, putting our goal of $110,000 within reach with one week left until our Christmas deadline.

Holiday Hope is an annual campaign in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Access Carroll, Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice and The Shepherd's Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays.


Donations most recently received included $250 in honor of Gene and Eva Fisher, $200 from Kass Reiker in memory of Freda Boden, Bill Leese, Stanley Reiker and Baby Nikke Wolf; $200 from Mel and Diane Fischer in memory of “Our Parents,” $200 from Nancy Hunter in memory of Stanley Hunter, $200 from the Polites Family in memory of Richard G. Polites, $150 from Jean and Nancy Rouchard in memory of Faye Tipton, $150 in honor of Richard Joseph Conroy and $125 from the School Nurses Association of Carroll County in honor of the students we care for in Carroll County.

Additional contributions made were $100 from Your Friends from Linton Springs Book Club in memory of Peggy Harper, $100 from Calvin and Joan Pickett in memory of Our Parents, $100 from Mary Thayer in memory of John Thayer, $100 from Gail Carlson in memory of Les Carlson, $100 from Sandy and Dale Yingling in memory of Loved Ones, $100 from Joe and Dixie Ferrera in memory of Kent and Doris Dixon and Nick Ferrera, $100 from Diane and Orville Green in memory of Gloria Clarke, $100 in memory of Ken and Mary Bess Keeney and $100 in memory of Joseph W. and Lizzie E. Gross and Monroe and Helen Bear.

Other donations received included $75 from Pat and Bob Schulz in honor of Cathy Sheehe and Mark Butler, Charles Sheehe III and Marianne Lax, and Peg and Ken Watkins; $50 from Henry and Jacki Reiff in memory of Ruth Gray, $50 from Calvin and Joan Pickett in memory of Catherine Schaeffer, $50 from the Edwards Family in memory of Chuck Edwards, and a dozen anonymous donations totaling $575.

This year, Carroll Community Bank is assisting the Times in processing donations. The Shepherd's Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Access Carroll offers integrated healthcare services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.
