Holiday Hope: Total just shy of $60,000 raised for five charities

Contributions of $700 from the Westminster United Methodist Women and $500 from Patapsco United Methodist Church in honor of Pastor Barbara Allen are among the 30 most recently received donations totaling $3,945 for the 2017 Holiday Hope campaign.

This brings the total amount raised to $59,908 toward our goal of $110,000 by Christmas. Holiday Hope is an annual campaign in which the Carroll County Times teams up with Access Carroll, Carroll Food Sunday, Neighbors in Need Year Round, Carroll Hospice and The Shepherd's Staff to help the less fortunate during the holidays.


Other donations recently received included $200 in memory of Joe and Elaine Holechek and Jack and Theresa Bentz; $200 from the Shaffer family in memory of loved ones; $100 from Gaye and Frank Grimes Jr. in memory of Mary and Mark Fleming and Teresa and Frank (Smokey) Grimes Sr.; $100 from Phil and Mona Canter in memory of Sidney and Annette Canter and Saul and Elaine Genedlis; $100 from Lynn Kehoe George in memory of Richard J. and Ann Clingan Kehoe; $100 from Oscar Dixon in memory of Dorothy and Ronnie Dixon; $100 from the Terra Rubra Lions Club in memory of deceased members; $100 from Dale and Madge Keefer in honor of Kimberly Rosier; and $100 in honor of the Haschert family.

More contributions included $75 from Ray Hartman in memory of Joan Hartman; $50 from Richard and Linda Bowers in memory of Forrest and Frances Roser and Ted Roser; $50 from Warren, Mellissa and Sarah Grill in memory of Richard K. Anderson Sr.; $50 from Mom and Dad in memory of Richard Schwaab; $50 from Donald and Nancy in memory of departed loved ones; $20 in memory of family; and 13 anonymous donations totaling $1,350.This year, Carroll Community Bank is assisting the Times in processing donations.

The Shepherd's Staff is a Christian outreach and support center serving those in need and encouraging pathways to self-sufficiency.

Carroll Hospice provides palliative care and support services to people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Neighbors in Need Year Round, administered through Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc., provides assistance with rent, essential utilities and security deposits for people struggling to maintain their housing.

Carroll County Food Sunday operates food banks for the county's needy from locations in Westminster, Taneytown and Eldersburg.

Access Carroll offers integrated health care services on a sliding fee scale to uninsured and low-income residents to help patients maintain good health and manage illnesses.
