Liberty High School grad nabs Rees scholarship

A 2016 graduate of Liberty High School, and student at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center, won a $500 scholarship from The Clifford H. "Ted" Rees, Jr. Scholarship Foundation.

Thomas Mascia was given the scholarship after his participation in the recent SkillsUSA Championships in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) category, according to a news release. The championships, which were held last month, brought together students who won local and statewide competitions before qualifying to compete on the national stage.

Mascia finished as a finalist, according to the release.

Rees scholarships are aimed at helping students continue studying to become technicians in the HVACR and water heating industry, according to the release. Since it was founded in 2003, it has awarded almost $440,000 in scholarships to more than 250 students and instructor.
