Some 89 Carroll County area students were named to the dean's list at Salisbury University for the spring 2016 semester. Benjamin Morse, of Taneytown; and Erin Berch, of Sykesville, were named to the dean's list for the spring 2016 semester at Ithaca College in New York.

Sierra Lindsey, of Eldersburg, was named to the spring 2016 dean's list at the University of Findlay in Ohio. To earn this achievement, a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Samantha Engel, of Finksburg, a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Campus in Madison, N.J., has been named to the honors list for the spring 2016 semester. To qualify, a student must carry a 3.5 or better grade point average out of a possible 4.0 and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 letter-graded hours.

In commencement exercises on May 17, Fairleigh Dickinson University conferred more than 3,000 degrees, ranging from associates to doctorates, on graduates. Local students receiving degrees were: Natalie Phillips, of Manchester, BA in film & animation at FDU's Florham Campus, Madison, N.J.; Jennifer Triano, of Sykesville, BA in criminology at FDU's Florham Campus, Madison, N.J.; and Mark Smith, of Westminster, MSA in sports administration at FDU's Metropolitan Campus, Teaneck, N.J.

Katie Elizabeth Harshman received her Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Central Florida on June 13. The South Carroll High School graduate received her undergraduate degree as well as her master's degree from McDaniel College. She taught at Liberty High School for five years prior to pursuing her Ph.D., and is currently employed with the Orange County Public School System as a mathematics education program specialist.

Kathryn Piper, of Manchester, achieved dean's list honors for the spring 2016 semester at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine. Eligible students completed 12 or more credit hours in the semester and earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
