Preschool Vision Screening: 9:30 a.m.-noon. For ages 2-5. Drop by the Eldersburg library for a free vision screening, offered in partnership with the Freedom District Lions Club. The screening for preschool-aged children will test for lazy eye, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and depth perception. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Family Music/musique joyeuse Class Demonstration: 11 a.m. For ages 1-6. Using the Musikgarten whole-child approach, the youngest musicians explore the wonder of music while expanding their self-awareness and experiencing social action. Parents and caregivers participate with your child in singing, listening, instrument exploration and movement activities. This class is provided by Children's Chorus of Carroll County. All children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Only kids need to register.

Free Spirit Book Club: 2 p.m. For adults. Please join us for a discussion about our chosen book, "Circling the Sun," by Paula McLain.

Make-Up Application for Beginners: 2-3 p.m. For ages 13-adults. Register for this event. Holly J will teach you full face application including: contouring, strobing, color correcting, basic skin care, with a few tips on eye shadow, eyeliner, and lips. Please come to the program with a completely clean face and no makeup on.

Tea with Betsy Lerner: 1:30 p.m. For adults. For the past 50 years, Betsy Lerner's mother participated in Bridge club with the same four women. Lerner grew up with these Bridge Ladies, but it wasn't until 2013 while she was helping her mother recover from surgery that she really got to know them. In The Bridge Ladies, Lerner discovers the stories behind these women. Under their always-coiffed hair, lipstick, and prim coordinated outfits, Lerner would learn their secrets, desires, struggles, and life lessons. $25 admission includes tea and a copy of The Bridge Ladies. Did you know that many children fall behind in their reading skills during the summer? Some of the children in our community do not have anyone to read with them. This summer Taneytown Branch Library is offering a special volunteer program for adults to read to and with our local children. To volunteer, complete one of our training sessions and select 20 minutes per week that works best with your schedule. It could easily be the best 20 minutes in your week. We will provide a reading space, great books, and lots of eager kids. All attendees need to register.

Yoga for Inner Peace: 7 p.m. For ages 15-adults. Feeling the pressure and stress of daily life? Come unwind with us as we explore the gentle side of yoga. We will focus on meditation, pranayama (breathing), and simple asanas (positions and postures) that will leave you feeling calm and relaxed. If you are a knitter who can follow instructions, join us to learn how to knit your very own socks. You will be using a super simple sock pattern, with some help from us, to knit a basic sock. Supplies needed: set of five double pointed needles size 4 or 5, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and approximately 450 yards of sport weight yarn (a 2 or 3 on the yarn label).

Read to Me and I Will Read to You

11 a.m. Monday, June 13. Taneytown branch. For adults. Do you love to read? Do you like sharing your childhood favorites with others? Did you know that many children fall behind in their reading skills during the summer? Some of the children in our community do not have anyone to read with them. This summer Taneytown Branch Library is offering a special volunteer program for adults to read to and with our local children. To volunteer, complete one of our training sessions and select 20 minutes per week that works best with your schedule. It could easily be the best 20 minutes in your week. We will provide a reading space, great books, and lots of eager kids. All attendees need to register.
