Tech Center students win 'I BUILT THIS' video contest

Carroll County Career and Technology students were named winners in two categories in a video contest.

The students won in the “I BUILT THIS” video contest sponsored by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) and Build Your Future, according to a news release from the school system.

Joseph Petrowicz, in the welding program, Dai Wei Chen in the carpentry program, and Sara Warthen, in the video production, won in the Group Secondary category for a video that documented their project to build therapeutic stairs for children with walking disabilities, according to the release.

Michael Fulton, in the welding, was the winner in the Individual Secondary category for his video, which described his project to build a log splitter for the front of a piece of equipment for a local business, according to the release.

According to the release, the annual video contest is intended to “help promote construction as an industry of choice and illustrates the unique perspective of trainees or students and allows them to share videos of their projects.”
