The snow expected to hit Carroll County during the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 29 means a shorter-than-usual day for most local students.

All Carroll County Public Schools will have an early dismissal on Tuesday, closing three hours early, according to a news release from the school system.

Transportation officials, forecasters warn of icy Tuesday afternoon commute threat in Carroll

The Maryland Department of Transportation is warning people of a potentially dangerous afternoon commuting situation Tuesday, as forecasters call for snow and ice for the Baltimore and Carroll regions.

Additionally, Carroll Community College is closing at 1 p.m. In a release, the school asks credit students to check Blackboard for information from instructors and for Continuing Education classes, students are to call 410-386-8457.

McDaniel College remained open during the day with liberal leave in effect for school employees, but evening classes were canceled.

A light snow fell in Carroll much of Tuesday morning, but forecasters were calling for heavier snow with possible accumulation in the afternoon, potentially affecting the rush-hour commute.
