Sandymount Elementary School is scheduled to reopen Wednesday, Nov. 28, after being closed for two days due to flooding.
Sandymount Elementary School will be closed again Tuesday after heating coil bursts, flooding school
Flooding caused Sandymount Elementary School to close Monday, Nov. 26, the first day back for students after Thanksgiving break.
The school was closed both Monday and Tuesday — the first two days back after Thanksgiving break — after a heating coil in the kitchen burst. The coil spewed water for a “significant amount of time” before it was discovered, Brenda Bowers, communications manager for CCPS, said Monday.
On Tuesday, Bowers said the pipe burst after the coil froze.
Steve Johnson, assistant superintendent of instruction, said Monday that “here was pretty extensive flooding,” and that it affected the cafeteria, hallways and classrooms.
