Carroll County-area private schools are following the state’s recommendation to close.

State officials announced Thursday that Maryland public schools would be closed from March 16 through March 30 in an effort to halt the spread of the coronavirus. Gov. Larry Hogan urged private schools to do the same and Carroll County private schools are following suit.

· North Carroll Community School in Westminster is closing for two weeks, including all extracurricular activities, said Administrator Alex Will. Friday, March 13 was a professional day for employees so students were not in classes.

· Gerstell Academy President John Polasko issued a statement Thursday that school would close starting that evening at 7 p.m. and remain closed until at least Monday, March 30. The closure applies to all after-school activities inducing athletic practices and competitions.
